Making Exercise a Priority

Making exercise a priority shouldn’t feel like a chore or something that has to be checked off your to do list. It should be a priority and an activity that fits into your daily routine, just like brushing your teeth or taking out the trash. However, kick-starting your workout regimen can be a challenge because there will always be some excuse or activity that gets in the way of taking care of yourself. Whether you’re busy with carpool or working a 10-hour day, making exercise a priority is something that’s beneficial to you and your own body.

For a lot of people, exercise remains low on their list of priorities as compared to other activities during the day. Despite its importance in maintaining a healthy lifestyle it is often overlooked and people continue to think of it as a luxury that requires a lot of time. However, it’s important to make working out a priority just like your job and your favorite hobby.

Now obviously everyone knows by now that incorporating a workout into your day makes you maintain weight and helps in the long term, but how? There have been countless studies that show that regular exercise is linked with lower rates of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart problems later in life. So think of exercising as a long term investment, you’re saving money by having less medical expenses. Exercise has also been shown to induce brain changes which lead to better short term and long term memory. After a few months of regular exercise you won’t have to worry about forgetting that important deadline unless you put up a million reminders.

Apart from all the above, exercising has also been definitively proven to reduce stress levels, increase energy levels and make you more efficient overall. To be successful at your high-priority job these are all traits that you need. Not only will you be more productive at your job and make a better impression you’ll also be less likely to crack under pressure.

One of the biggest hurdles to making exercise a priority is time and the easy solution is to get more efficient. Try HIIT workouts that take less time but are just as effective as longer workouts. Or find a gym or fitness center near you that specializes in shorter, more intense workouts. Either way, getting in a workout a few times a week isn’t a question of time it’s simply a matter of priority.
